Working Visit to Kuje Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service

On the 8th of March 2022, our Legal Team, led by Oluwaseyi Arowosebe, paid a working visit to the Records Unit of the Kuje Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service. The purpose of the visit was to discuss areas Citizens’ Gavel can support the work done at the Custodial Centre.

The visit also afforded our legal Team the opportunity to meet with some of the inmates who currently enjoy our free legal service.

We gladly observed that since 2018 when we began our legal intervention to indigent inmates awaiting trial at the Kuje Custodial centre, there has been tremendous progress and growth in the centre between then and now.

The administration and welfare of inmates have been more effectively done. We also observed that arrangements are made for inmates who do not have legal representatives at the point of admission.

More can be done. We use this medium to invite philanthropists and development partners to visit custodial centres all over the nation and seek areas of collaboration and support.
