Saliu (Pseud) was arrested by officers of the Nigeria Police Force and charged to court for the offence of murder even when the Complainant informed the police that Saliu wasn’t the murderer.
Saliu was remanded in prison custody for three months by the Magistrate Court pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution. Gavel’s legal team aggressively followed up while providing legal support until the advice was out.
On Friday, 23rd of September, the Magistrate court held that, by the Director of Public Prosecution’s advice, Saliu did not commit the offence and therefore will not be charged with the offence of murder or any other offence. He was accordingly discharged and asked to go home.
