Gavel team was at the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the 7th of September 2021, where we monitored the hearing. The Lagos State Assistant Commissioner of Police gave his testimony on the Police involvement in the Endsars protest and the event of 20th October 2020.
According to the ACP’s narrative of the event that transpired between the Police and the protesters on the 13th,17th,18th,19th, and 20th of October, 2020; the ACP reported that some persons came to the command headquarters to make a complaint and the Commissioner of Police addressed them. On the following day, the same set of people pitched a tent alongside other groups at Alausa, Tollgate and Lekki.
During the hearing, the ACP narrated other details concerning events of the above days from his perspective and how the protest purportedly became violent and disorganized.
Furthermore, at the said sitting of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry, a forensic report was tendered on the alleged “blank” bullets fired at EndSars Protesters at Lekki Tollgate on the 20th of October 2020. The report confirmed that the bullets matched that of the Nigerian Army.
However, the Forensic expert said the bullets are not of the same calibre of ammunition submitted by the Panel.
